Special Meeting for Members and Regular Attendees

We’d like to invite you to a special meeting on Sunday 21st March at 6.00pm to hear about the planning application to further develop the Cedar Hill Site. We plan to have some photos, to share the outline plans and take questions in relation to this application. We also plan to be finished by 7.00pm to allow Homegroups to meet as normal.

Back to the beginning

Genesis is a book of beginnings. It brings us back to the origin of things. It deals with the past. For that reason it is vitally important for when we don’t know our past we are like people struggling with amnesia: we don’t know who we are. Without knowledge of how things began we can’t truly answer the fundamental questions of life such as “Who am I?”; “How should I live?”; “What is the significance of my life?”

Controversial

Genesis is also controversial for the same reason. Its opening words, “In the beginning God…” are increasingly rejected in our culture as many are swept along by the rising tide of atheistic materialism which ultimately reduces human life to the mere animal, our loves and longings to the workings of our nerve cells and molecules and our ultimate significance to zero. Genesis is not anti-science. It tells us something about the ‘how’ of creation. More importantly it tells us what science could never tell us: who we are and why we are here. Genesis gives us a solid basis for the things that matter most to us in life: love, relationships, family, creativity, art, music, discovery, language - even work! Genesis also tells us what has gone wrong with our world, spelling out the implications. It also begins to tell us God’s way of putting it right and in particular illustrates for us what it means to live by faith. The message of Genesis, then, is fundamental to so much of what it means to be human and we invite you to join with us in this new exploration of the Bible’s first book.

Missionary Support

The apostle Paul was always interested in how the Christians were getting on. In Philippians 2 v 19 he writes: “I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.” The letter goes on to show that there would be mutual encouragement from this contact.

Encouragement

Glenabbey’s Missionary Support Groups play a key role in supporting, encouraging, and praying for our missionaries. This is vital to ensure that our missionaries continue to be part of our church family and also that we can be encouraged by the work they are doing for the Lord. There is up to date information about our missionaries throughout the month in Essentials.

If you would like to know more about the work of the Support Groups, contact details for each group can be found in Essentials and in the Missions area at the
back of the church. All of the Support Groups would welcome more people to join them.
